The best apps like Branch are DailyPay for W-2 workers whose employer offers it, Lyft Direct or DoorDash Crimson for gig workers, and EarnIn when your job has no program. Branch pays workers early through employers and gig platforms. Its free instant path works only inside the Branch Wallet, and the wallet carries ATM and inactivity fees. Our guide to earned wage access explains how these programs work.

| Free path | Instant to the Branch Wallet, or standard ACH to an outside bank in 3–5 business days |
| Instant fee to a debit card | $2.99–$4.99 for W-2 workers, based on amount. 1099 accounts pay 2%, $2.99 minimum. |

Apps like Branch compared
Five of these Branch alternatives come through an employer. Three come from the gig app you already drive or deliver for, and one works with any job. We ordered them by fit for a Branch user, so each group starts with the option that fixes the most Branch complaints.

|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| DailyPay | A higher limit than Branch | Next-business-day ACH, or instant to its card with direct deposit | $1.99–$3.99 in its Program Terms, $3.49 on its fees page | $1,000 a day | Your full paycheck routes through DailyPay |
| Rain | Free cash to your own bank sooner | Bank ACH in 1–3 days | “Small fee,” amount not published | 50% of earned wages in most cases | Instant price shows only in the app |
| Tapcheck | A bigger share of net pay | Gift cards through Prizeout | One flat fee, amount not published | 70% of net pay | Cash always costs a fee |
| ZayZoon | Small-business workers who use Venmo | ZayZoon Visa Card or gift cards | Up to $5 | $200 per payout in a 2024 help article | No published share of pay |
| Payactiv | Paychex, Paylocity, and Paycor workers | ACH in 1–3 business days, or its card with $200+ direct deposit | $2.49 to its card, $3.49 elsewhere | Up to 50% and $500 a pay period in most cases | Lower cap than Branch |
| Lyft Direct | Lyft drivers | Instant payout after every ride | Express Pay $1.75 to another card | Your earnings, no advance | Another wallet card to manage |
| DoorDash Crimson | Dashers | Payout after every dash | Fast Pay $1.99, once a day | Your earnings, no advance | Fast Pay doesn’t work with Crimson |
| OnePay for Spark Driver | Walmart Spark drivers | Free instant after every trip | None | Your earnings, no advance | Tips arrive 24–48 hours later |
| EarnIn | Workers with no program | Standard transfer in 1–2 business days | Lightning Speed from $3.99, tips optional | $200 a day, $1,000 per pay period | A bank debit on payday plus two AG lawsuits |

Employer apps like Branch for W-2 workers
If you’re a W-2 employee, the closest apps like Branch are other payroll-connected programs your employer can offer. You only get the one your employer signs with. These providers cap you at earned wages and collect through your next paycheck, which keeps a payday debit from hitting your bank. Bring this list to HR if you’re asking for a change.
DailyPay: best for a higher limit than Branch
DailyPay lets you reach far more than Branch’s $500 per request. DailyPay’s FAQ allows up to 100% of what’s available in the app, capped at $1,000 a day. You can send up to $1,500 a day to the DailyPay Card, in up to five transfers. Your employer’s settings decide how much of your pay counts as available.
You pay $0 for a next-business-day transfer, which beats Branch’s 3 to 5 days to an outside bank. You also pay $0 for instant pay to a DailyPay Card that gets your direct deposit. Otherwise, DailyPay charges $1.99 to $3.99 under its Program Terms, or $3.49 flat on its Our Fees page.
Two catches. After your first transfer, your employer sends your whole paycheck to DailyPay, and DailyPay forwards the rest on payday. And New York’s attorney general sued DailyPay in April 2025. Read our DailyPay review and our apps like DailyPay guide before you switch.
Rain: best for free cash to your own bank sooner
Rain sends a free bank ACH in 1 to 3 days. That’s up to two days faster than Branch’s free outside transfer. You don’t need a Rain wallet to get it. Rain’s help desk says Rain won’t change your direct deposit, and you don’t need a new bank account.
Rain’s default cap is 50% of earned wages “in most cases,” the same share Branch uses, and your employer can set a different limit. Rain charges “a small fee” for instant pay and uses $3.99 only as an example in its EWA Agreement. So you won’t know the price until you open the app.
With Balance Protection turned on, Rain moves earned wages into checking when your balance drops below $100. Rain’s agreement says that, in general, you don’t owe Rain if a payroll deduction comes up short. Our apps like Rain guide covers its trade-offs.
Tapcheck: best for a bigger share of net pay
Tapcheck publishes a cap of 70% of net pay, after taxes and deductions. Branch stops at 50% of projected earned wages. Tapcheck’s employee page says the amount available is typically $100 a day, and you don’t have to change your direct deposit.
Tapcheck charges “one flat ATM-like fee” for cash, with a lower fee for next-day delivery. Tapcheck doesn’t publish either number. You avoid the fee only by taking your pay as a gift card through Prizeout, which adds up to 20% in gift card value.
So Tapcheck flips Branch’s model. Branch gives you free cash inside its wallet. Tapcheck gives you free value only at a store. Pick Tapcheck if you need a bigger slice of a check and can live with a fee you’ll see only in the app.
ZayZoon: best for Venmo or Zelle payouts at a small business
ZayZoon will send your pay straight to Venmo or Zelle. ZayZoon’s USA terms cap a near-instant transfer at $5. Connecticut workers pay $4, one per pay period. Transfers to the ZayZoon Visa Card and gift cards cost $0.
ZayZoon’s terms rule out subscription, membership, enrollment, maintenance, inactivity, and cancellation fees. That last list matters to Branch users, since Branch can charge up to $5.00 a month on a dormant account. ZayZoon sells through more than 300 payroll partners, so you’ll see it most at small and midsize employers. ZayZoon doesn’t publish how much of your pay you can reach.
Payactiv: best for Paychex, Paylocity, and Paycor workers
Payactiv runs on-demand pay inside Paychex, Paylocity, and Paycor, plus UKG Wallet and OnShift Wallet. Payactiv’s pricing page lists a free ACH transfer in 1 to 3 business days. Real-time transfers to the Payactiv Visa Card cost $0 with at least $200 of direct deposit per pay period and $2.49 without it. Other debit cards, Venmo, PayPal, and Walmart Cash Pickup cost $3.49.
Compared with Branch, Payactiv’s top instant fee is lower than Branch’s $4.99. But the cap is lower too. Payactiv’s get-started FAQ says your employer decides your limit. In most cases you can reach up to 50% and $500 a pay period, half of Branch’s $1,000. Payactiv promises “never any tips.” Our Payactiv review covers the card fees.
Branch alternatives for gig workers
Gig workers often don’t need an advance at all. Most delivery and ride companies already pay out earnings after each trip for free. Branch powers the Uber Pro Card and Instacart’s Shopper Rewards Card. If you have either, you’re already a Branch user, and both give free payouts after every trip or batch. With these platform cards, you get money you’ve already earned, so nobody collects anything back on payday.
If you’d rather skip the Uber Pro Card, Uber’s Instant Pay sends earnings to a personal debit card for a fee. Uber lists $1.25 on its driver page and $1.75 on its help page, free in New York City. Uber shows your price in the app. Amazon Flex drivers can cash out free to the Flex Debit Card, or pay $0.50 to send money to another card.
Lyft Direct: best for Lyft drivers
Lyft pays drivers on Lyft Direct instantly after every ride with no fee. Branch gives Uber drivers the same deal through the Uber Pro Card. Lyft’s Lyft Direct page describes the card, which Stride Bank and Payfare provide. Moving money from Lyft Direct to another debit card instantly costs a fee Lyft doesn’t state.
If you’d rather use your own bank card, Lyft’s Express Pay costs $1.75, or $0 in New York. Lyft’s help center allows Express Pay 5 times in 24 hours with a $6.75 minimum, or $5 once a day in New York. The catch matches Branch’s: the free path lives on a company card, so you trade one wallet for another.
DoorDash Crimson: best for Dashers
DoorDash pays Dashers on its Crimson account after every dash with no fee, through Starion Bank. That gets you the same free-after-every-shift result Branch offers through partner wallets, with no advance and nothing to repay.
DoorDash also sells Fast Pay, which moves your balance to your own debit card for $1.99, once a day. DoorDash’s Fast Pay article says your balance must be at least $1.99, and Fast Pay isn’t available with Crimson. So pick one. If you cash out with Fast Pay 27 times a year, you pay $53.73 for money you’d already earned. Crimson costs nothing.
OnePay for Spark Driver: best for Walmart delivery drivers
Walmart pays Spark drivers their trip earnings instantly through OnePay at no cost. OnePay’s Spark page says “It’s free to get your trip earnings instantly.” Spark Driver’s earnings page says tips arrive 24 to 48 hours after the trip.
OnePay also runs OnePay @Work, Walmart’s free EWA benefit for store associates. Walmart excludes New York, Puerto Rico, truck drivers, and executives. Watch the OnePay menu, though. OnePay Advance is an overdraft feature with a flat 3% fee, not employer EWA. If you only want your trip pay, ignore it.
A Branch alternative without an employer or platform
With no employer or gig program, EarnIn is the closest download-anywhere alternative to Branch. It costs more and carries more risk, because EarnIn collects from your bank account on payday instead of from your paycheck.
EarnIn: best for workers with no program
You can use EarnIn with your current checking account. EarnIn charges nothing for a standard transfer in 1 to 2 business days. EarnIn’s Cash Out page lists up to $200 a day and $1,000 per pay period, close to Branch’s $1,000 cap. EarnIn limits New York residents to $100 a day and Maryland residents to $150. Lightning Speed starts at $3.99.
To qualify, you need a consistent direct deposit schedule. EarnIn verifies work through a work email, your GPS work location, or timesheets. EarnIn doesn’t check your credit and doesn’t report Cash Out to the credit bureaus. It asks for tips, which you should skip, since a tip is a fee with friendlier wording. Colorado’s attorney general sued EarnIn in August 2026, and D.C.’s attorney general sued in November 2024. Our EarnIn review has the state-by-state fees.
What you give up when you leave Branch
You give up a bundle of financial tools, so check which ones you use before you switch. Branch offers a digital account with a Mastercard debit card, High Yield Savings (new in 2026), savings goals, cash back, and bill pay. Branch also handles cashless tips and 1099 payouts for the companies that pay you. Branch doesn’t publish a savings rate on the pages we read.
Branch’s Flex EWA, the version that runs inside another company’s app, reaches workers in 49 states but not Connecticut. Branch says state fee caps may apply in Indiana, Maryland, and Wisconsin. Most alternatives here offer similar features. Rain bundles Balance Protection, low-balance alerts, and coaching tools. Payactiv adds bill pay and goal-based savings. App store reviews barely separate them: as of October 2026, Branch, DailyPay, Rain, Tapcheck, ZayZoon, Payactiv, and EarnIn all rate between 4.7 and 4.9 on the App Store.
What Branch and its alternatives cost
Branch costs $0 if you leave the money in its wallet and use in-network ATMs. Paying to move each advance to another debit card runs about $81 to $135 a year. We used the CFPB’s July 2024 Data Spotlight as the base case. It found an average employer EWA advance of $106 and 27 advances a year for the average worker.
| Option | Fee on a $106 advance | APR on a 10-day advance | 27 uses a year |
|---|---|---|---|
| Branch Wallet, Rain ACH, DoorDash Crimson, Lyft Direct | $0 | 0% | $0 |
| Branch instant to a debit card, low end (W-2) | $2.99 | 103.0% | $80.73 |
| Branch instant to a debit card, high end (W-2) | $4.99 | 171.8% | $134.73 |
| Branch 1099 account (2%, $2.99 minimum) | $2.99 | 103.0% | $80.73 |
| DailyPay instant, Our Fees page | $3.49 | 120.2% | $94.23 |
| Payactiv to its card without direct deposit | $2.49 | 85.7% | $67.23 |
| EarnIn Lightning Speed, starting price | $3.99 | 137.4% | $107.73 |
Branch’s 2% fee for 1099 workers stays at the $2.99 minimum until an advance tops $149.50. On a $500 request, 2% comes to $10.00. The wallet adds its own costs. If you pull cash from an ATM 12 times a month, the four withdrawals past Branch’s free 8 cost $8.00.
Every row tells the same story. The free path wins, and paying for speed every pay period means the gap sits in your budget, not your pay schedule. If your gig income swings, read our guide to budgeting with irregular income. Our breakdown of earned wage access fees runs the math for other amounts.
Branch alternatives for employers
Employers replacing Branch should start with DailyPay, Tapcheck, Rain, or ZayZoon for EWA. Then check which companies also handle the rest of what Branch does. Branch bundles cashless tips, 1099 contractor payouts with W-9 collection and 1099 filing, and white-label wallets. Few EWA providers on this list publish all of that.
- DailyPay offers digital tips and off-cycle pay and connects to more than 180 HCM, payroll, and time systems. DailyPay says it costs the business nothing.
- Tapcheck advertises “$0 Employer Cost” and more than 300 payroll and timekeeping integrations.
- Rain funds every transfer and has employers reimburse it through payroll, with pre-built connectors to more than 100 platforms.
- ZayZoon sells through more than 300 payroll partners and fits small businesses.
Ask each provider for its worker fee in writing, and ask whether every worker has a free option. Plan the rollout so employees know the free path from day one. Our roundup of the best earned wage access providers compares integrations and state licenses.
How to choose between apps like Branch
Start with your kind of work. A W-2 employee, a gig driver, and a 1099 contractor each have a different best option. Then match the alternative to the Branch catch that bugs you most:
- You drive or deliver: use your platform’s free payout card (Lyft Direct, Crimson, OnePay, or the Uber Pro Card you may already have) before any advance app.
- You hit Branch’s $500 per request limit: DailyPay allows $1,000 a day, and Tapcheck publishes a 70% cap.
- You don’t want another wallet: Rain’s free ACH goes to your own bank in 1 to 3 days.
- You pay Branch’s 1099 fee: compare it with your platform’s cashout fee, since Lyft and Uber charge under $2.
- Your job has nothing: EarnIn, on the free standard transfer, with tips at $0.
Also check the deduction on your pay stub after any advance. Our explainer on the earned wage access deduction shows what that line means.
How we picked these Branch alternatives
We compared each company’s own fee pages, terms, and help center articles, plus regulator filings. We read them between October 22 and October 24, 2026. We didn’t test any app with our own money, and no company paid for a spot. We ranked each group on a free path, a published fee, payroll deduction over bank debit, no tips or required subscription, and legal history.
We left out subscription cash advance apps such as Brigit and Tilt, since a monthly fee costs you money even in months you don’t borrow. We also skipped Clair, because a bank now originates Clair’s advances with underwriting, which makes it a different product from Branch.
When none of these apps like Branch fit
If nothing here fits, ask your employer for a payroll advance or an off-cycle check. Then call the company you owe and ask for a new due date before the bill goes late. Our guide on how to get money in a hurry lists more ways to cover a short gap. A starter emergency fund of a few hundred dollars beats every app here.
Skip payday loans. The CFPB says a fee of $15 per $100 borrowed is common, which equals almost 400% APR on a two-week loan. Our comparison of earned wage access vs payday loans shows the dollar gap.
Apps like Branch FAQ
Match the alternative to your kind of work
The best apps like Branch depend on your kind of work. W-2 workers should take whatever program their employer offers, with DailyPay for a higher limit and Rain for free transfers to their own bank. Gig workers should use their platform’s free payout card before paying anyone for speed. Everyone else can use EarnIn’s free standard transfer. For more options, see our list of the best earned wage access apps and our best on-demand pay apps roundup, plus our apps like Tapcheck and apps like ZayZoon guides.
