Apps Like ZayZoon: 9 Alternatives Compared (2026)

The best apps like ZayZoon are Branch and Rain if your employer offers one, Clair if your boss runs Gusto or QuickBooks, and Chime MyPay if no employer program exists. ZayZoon caps instant fees at $5. But you get money free only on its card or as gift cards, and ZayZoon doesn’t publish what share of your pay you can reach. If you’re new to the idea, start with our guide to earned wage access.

Eric Rosenberg, who founded Personal Profitability, wrote for Payactiv as a freelancer and later worked there as a marketing manager, until June 2026. Nobody at Payactiv reviewed this page. We held Payactiv to its own published fees and terms, the same standard we used for every other company here.

ZayZoon at a glance

ZayZoon is an earned wage access platform for small and midsize businesses, and employees can use it only if their employer signs up. ZayZoon sells through more than 300 payroll partners. It says it started in 2014 and runs offices in Scottsdale, Arizona, and Calgary, Alberta. ADP named ZayZoon a 2023 ADP Marketplace Partner of the Year. UKG picked ZayZoon as the exclusive EWA provider for UKG Wallet in UKG Ready, with a rollout planned for early 2027.

Beyond pay access, ZayZoon bundles financial wellness tools for employees: a ZayZoon Visa prepaid card, Venmo payouts, gift cards, perks, rewards and recognition, and financial education.

Those terms put ZayZoon near the top of the employer group on worker protection. The weak spots are the free path, which runs through ZayZoon’s own card or a gift card, and the unpublished share of pay you can reach. If you want cash in your bank account today, you’ll pay up to $5 a transfer. Our roundup of the best earned wage access providers compares ZayZoon with the rest of the employer field.

Apps like ZayZoon compared

Seven of these apps like ZayZoon come through an employer, and two work with any job that pays by direct deposit. We ordered these similar apps by fit for a small-business worker who wants a free path to cash, not by commission.

Employer apps like ZayZoon

Employer apps like ZayZoon are the cheapest, safest way to reach your pay early. Your employer has to offer the program, though. Each one checks your hours through payroll and takes repayment from your next paycheck, so you can’t end up overdrawn. Use this list when you weigh a job offer, when your company switches payroll software, or when you suggest a provider to your manager.

Branch: best for a free instant transfer

Branch beats ZayZoon on the thing most ZayZoon users pay for: instant money at no cost. Branch’s help center lists free instant transfers to the Branch Wallet and a free standard ACH to an outside bank in 3 to 5 business days. ZayZoon’s free option works the same way, through its own card, so the two tie on design. Branch wins on transparency. It publishes a hard limit of 50% of projected earned wages, up to $1,000 a pay period and $500 a request.

Paying for speed costs about the same at both. Branch charges W-2 workers $2.99 to $4.99 to push an advance to an outside debit card, based on the amount. 1099 workers pay 2%, with a $2.99 minimum. Watch the wallet fees. Branch gives you 8 free in-network Allpoint ATM withdrawals a month, then charges $2.00 each. Branch can also charge up to $5.00 a month on an account dormant past month 12. If you’ll spend from the Branch card, it’s the better deal.

Rain: best for a free transfer to your own bank

Rain gives you what ZayZoon doesn’t: a free transfer straight to the checking account you already have. Rain’s integrations page says you can move up to 50% of current-period earnings to your bank for free or to any card for a small fee. Rain’s help desk puts the free ACH at 1 to 3 days. So if your bills auto-pay from your current bank and you can wait a day or two, you pay Rain nothing. ZayZoon would charge up to $5 for the same trip to your bank.

Rain’s EWA Agreement has a “No Indebtedness” clause, which means you generally don’t owe Rain if payroll falls short. That matches ZayZoon’s nonrecourse promise. Rain doesn’t publish its instant fee, though. Its agreement uses $3.99 only as an example, so check the price in the app before you tap confirm. Rain bundles financial wellness features too, including automated savings, free tax filing, and financial coaching. Rain also offers Balance Protection, which moves earned wages into checking when your balance drops below $100. Turn it on only if you’d rather spend next week’s pay than risk an overdraft.

Clair: best for workers whose employer runs Gusto or QuickBooks

Small-business workers whose employer runs Gusto or QuickBooks Payroll will likely see Clair instead of ZayZoon. QuickBooks includes Clair free with its payroll subscription, and Gusto calls it a free benefit. You’ll find Clair inside the Gusto or QuickBooks Workforce app, so you don’t download anything new. QuickBooks lists a free standard transfer in 1 to 3 business days and an instant fee of up to $4.99. Gusto sends standard advances in 2 to 3 business days free, and charges $4.50 to its Gusto Spending account or $4.99 to an outside debit card.

The catch matters. Pathward, N.A., a national bank, originates every Clair advance, and Clair approves them with an underwriting engine it calls Clair Atlas. ZayZoon doesn’t underwrite. Clair can turn you down, and the limits run small. Gusto caps advances to an outside card at $200 a pay period and $100 an advance. Our apps like Clair guide explains what that bank model means for you.

Immediate: best for restaurant and retail teams on ADP RUN or isolved

Immediate competes with ZayZoon for the same small employers and adds a free next-day bank transfer. Immediate’s homepage describes “one flat, nominal fee” for real-time delivery to a bank account, and free access through next-day ACH, a paycard, or merchant cards. Immediate says employers pay nothing, and Immediate collects through a payroll deduction, the same model ZayZoon uses.

Immediate lists integrations with ADP Workforce Now, Asure, BambooHR, isolved, Paychex, Paycor, Paylocity, PrismHR, and TriNet, plus point-of-sale systems. ADP’s marketplace also carries an Immediate app for RUN. That covers many of the payroll systems small restaurants and shops use. Immediate doesn’t publish its instant fee or how much of your pay you can reach. With ZayZoon’s $5 ceiling, you know the worst case in advance. Pick Immediate when the free next-day transfer matters more than knowing the instant price in advance.

Tapcheck: best for reaching a bigger share of your paycheck

Tapcheck publishes the highest access cap in this group, up to 70% of your net earnings after taxes and deductions, while ZayZoon publishes no share at all. Tapcheck says it’s free for employers and connects to more than 300 payroll and timekeeping systems. Tapcheck takes repayment from your next paycheck, with no direct deposit change. Its employee page says available wages typically run about $100 a day.

Cash never comes free at Tapcheck. Tapcheck charges “one flat ATM-like fee” per transfer, and a lower fee if you wait until the next day, but it doesn’t publish either amount. Tapcheck waives the fee only when you take your pay as a gift card through Prizeout, which mirrors ZayZoon’s free Boost gift cards. So if you’re happy with gift cards, the two tie. If you need cash, ZayZoon’s published $5 ceiling beats a fee you can’t see until the app shows it. Our apps like Tapcheck page covers the free-cash options.

DailyPay: best for the highest daily limit

DailyPay lets you move up to 100% of what’s available in the app, capped at $1,000 a day, or $1,500 a day to the DailyPay Card, according to its FAQ. That’s the most generous published limit here. DailyPay also offers a free next-business-day ACH to your own bank, a route ZayZoon lacks. You can also get free instant transfers to a DailyPay Card that receives your direct deposit.

DailyPay’s client logos lean toward large brands like Dollar Tree, Tractor Supply, and Waste Management. You’re more likely to find DailyPay at a national chain than at a small shop. Two catches. After your first transfer, your employer sends your whole paycheck to DailyPay, which forwards the remainder on payday. And New York’s attorney general sued DailyPay in April 2025, calling its advances payday loans. We found no ruling as of October 2026. DailyPay’s own documents also disagree on the instant fee: $1.99 to $3.99 in its Program Terms, $3.49 on its fees page. Our DailyPay review covers both.

Payactiv: best for workers at companies on Paychex, Paylocity, or Paycor

Payactiv powers the on-demand pay inside Paychex, Paylocity, Paycor, and today’s UKG Wallet, so many small-business workers have Payactiv under another name. Payactiv’s pricing page lists a free ACH transfer in 1 to 3 business days. Real-time transfers to the Payactiv Visa Card cost $0 with at least $200 a pay period in direct deposit, or $2.49 without it. Transfers to other debit cards, Venmo, PayPal, or Walmart Cash Pickup cost $3.49. Payactiv says it never charges tips, and employers pay nothing. Employees can only access “a portion” of earned wages, according to Payactiv’s pricing page.

Against ZayZoon, Payactiv wins on the free bank transfer and loses nothing on price. Its top instant fee of $3.49 sits under ZayZoon’s $5 ceiling. Your employer’s settings decide how much you can reach. Payactiv’s FAQ says up to 50% and $500 a pay period in most cases. If your employer runs UKG Ready, ZayZoon takes over its UKG Wallet in early 2027, so expect the fee table to change. Our Payactiv review lists the full fee table.

ZayZoon alternatives you can use without an employer

Left a ZayZoon employer for a job with no program? A direct-to-consumer cash advance app is the fallback. These companies estimate your pay from your bank deposits and pull repayment from your checking account on payday, which ZayZoon promises never to do. That bank debit is the risk to manage: if your paycheck lands late, the debit can overdraw you. Only two of these apps pass our test for a ZayZoon user, and our apps like EarnIn page covers the rest.

Chime MyPay: best if you’ll move your direct deposit

Chime MyPay comes closest to ZayZoon’s price structure. Chime’s MyPay page says a scheduled advance that arrives within 24 hours costs nothing. Instant delivery costs 3%, with a $2 minimum and a $5 maximum. That $5 cap matches ZayZoon’s. Chime charges no subscription, runs no credit check, and doesn’t report your payment history to the credit bureaus.

To qualify, you need $200 or more in qualifying direct deposits into Chime, an activated physical Chime card, and an eligible state. Chime advertises “up to $750,” and its footnote says limits run $20 to $1,000 per pay period. Read the fine print, though. Chime calls MyPay “a line of credit” with limits “based on estimated income and risk-based criteria.” ZayZoon caps you at wages your payroll shows you’ve earned. Chime caps you at what its risk model will lend.

EarnIn: best if you’ll keep your current bank

EarnIn works with the checking account you already have and offers a free standard transfer in 1 to 2 business days. EarnIn’s Cash Out page lists up to $200 a day and $1,000 a pay period. New York residents max out at $100 a day and Maryland residents at $150. Lightning Speed starts at $3.99. EarnIn needs a steady direct deposit schedule and verifies work through a work email, your GPS work location, or timesheets.

Two catches for a former ZayZoon user. EarnIn asks for tips, which ZayZoon refuses to accept, and we’d skip them every time. And Colorado’s attorney general sued EarnIn in August 2026, while D.C.’s attorney general sued in November 2024. Our EarnIn review walks through the fees by state.

What a ZayZoon transfer costs over a year

A ZayZoon transfer to your bank costs up to $5, or as much as $135 a year at the average user’s pace. The free card costs $0. The CFPB’s 2024 Data Spotlight found employer EWA users took an average advance of $106, paid $3.18 when they paid a fee, and took 27 advances a year. The CFPB put the “illustrative APR” on a 10-day advance at 109.5%.

OptionFee on a $106 advanceAPR equivalent over 10 daysCost of 27 advances a year
ZayZoon Visa Card or Boost gift card$00%$0
Rain, DailyPay, Payactiv, or Branch free transfer$00%$0
CFPB average paid fee$3.18109.5%$85.86
Payactiv to another debit card$3.49120.2%$94.23
Clair instant to a bank$4.99171.8%$134.73
ZayZoon near-instant, at its $5 ceiling$5.00172.2%$135.00

The APR column divides the fee by the advance and stretches it across a year. It’s an estimate, since you repay on payday, but you can use it to compare a $5 fee with a credit card or a payday loan. Every $1 in fees on a $100 advance held 10 days works out to about 36.5% APR. Our breakdown of earned wage access fees runs the math for other amounts.

The cheapest move with ZayZoon is to load its Visa card and spend from it, which costs $0. If you tap the instant button every pay period, you’re covering a budget gap instead of a timing gap. A simple budget plus a small emergency fund will save you more than switching apps.

ZayZoon alternatives for small business owners

Small business owners comparing ZayZoon alternatives should start with whatever their payroll software already includes, then look at Tapcheck and Immediate. If you run Gusto or QuickBooks Payroll, Clair comes built in at no cost. QuickBooks requires you to run payroll within the last 30 days and pay at least one employee by direct deposit. Paychex, Paylocity, and Paycor include Payactiv. Tapcheck advertises “$0 Employer Cost” and 300-plus payroll and timekeeping connections, and Immediate says it’s free for employers.

Most of these platforms plug into your existing payroll system through a prebuilt integration, so setup rarely changes how you run payroll. ZayZoon doesn’t publish an employer price, and neither do most rivals, though ZayZoon’s terms let an employer pay worker fees. Shopping for employee financial wellness products? Consider how each vendor will support your team when a worker calls about a missing deposit. Then ask every vendor four questions before you sign:

  1. What does a worker pay for an instant transfer to their own bank, in dollars?
  2. Does every worker get a free path to cash, not only a card or gift card?
  3. Do you underwrite workers or check credit?
  4. What happens if a payroll deduction comes up short, and do you ever debit a worker’s bank account?

ZayZoon answers the last two well in writing. Use those answers as your bar. Check your state too. Connecticut caps EWA charges at $4 an advance and $30 a month, and our earned wage access laws tracker lists the other states with rules.

How to choose between apps like ZayZoon

Choose the app that gives you a free path you’ll use, and stay with employer programs whenever you can. Work through it in this order:

  1. Ask HR what’s already there. Your payroll software may include Clair, Payactiv, or another program you can start using today.
  2. Match the free path to how you pay bills. If your rent and car payment come out of your current bank, Rain, DailyPay, or Payactiv’s free bank transfer beats a card-only free option like ZayZoon’s.
  3. Compare the published instant fee. ZayZoon’s $5 ceiling sits at the top of the employer range. Branch, Payactiv, and DailyPay publish lower prices.
  4. Check how much you can reach. Tapcheck publishes 70% and Branch publishes 50%. ZayZoon lists only a $200 limit per payout in an older help article, and Immediate publishes nothing.
  5. Leave a direct-to-consumer app for last. These companies pull funds from your bank on payday, and several face lawsuits.

For workers whose job has no program at all, our list of the best earned wage access apps ranks the download-anywhere options.

How we picked these apps like ZayZoon

We compared each company’s own fee pages, terms, and help centers, read between October 22 and October 24, 2026, along with regulator filings. We didn’t test any app with our own money, and no company paid for a spot. For a ZayZoon user, we weighed five things. We looked for a free path to cash in your own bank, a published instant fee, and a published access cap. We favored repayment through payroll over a bank debit, and we marked down tips, subscriptions, and lawsuits. We left out Dave, Brigit, MoneyLion, and other subscription or tip-based apps, because each costs more than ZayZoon for the same job.

When none of these apps like ZayZoon fit

If nothing here fits, ask your employer for a payroll advance or an off-cycle check before you borrow anywhere else. Call the company you owe and ask to move the due date, and if an overdraft fee already hit, ask your bank to reverse it. Our guide on how to get money in a hurry lists more options. If your hours swing from week to week, our budgeting guide for irregular income helps.

Skip payday loans. The CFPB says a typical $15 fee per $100 borrowed equals an APR of almost 400% on a two-week loan. Our comparison of earned wage access vs payday loans shows the gap on a $200 shortfall, and a starter emergency fund ends the need for either.

Apps like ZayZoon FAQ

Use ZayZoon’s free card, or pick a free bank transfer

ZayZoon already treats employees better than most cash advance apps. So the best ZayZoon alternative is the one that adds a free path you’ll use. If your employer offers Branch, Rain, DailyPay, or Payactiv, take the free transfer and skip the instant fee. If your boss runs Gusto or QuickBooks, Clair’s standard transfer costs nothing, but know you’re taking a small bank loan. With no employer program, Chime MyPay’s 24-hour option is free. Compare more choices in our best earned wage access apps roundup, read our guides to apps like Payactiv and apps like Branch, and start with the basics of earned wage access if you’re new to it.
