Hey Profiteers! Welcome to the September 2018 edition of my online income reports. This one's a record! That's right. I have a new monthly high point, and I would love to share with you how it all came together. Join me as we dig in and see how my online income numbers came together in this monthly income report.
What's the deal with these income reports?
Money is a big taboo for many people, which means we rarely talk about things like our savings, investments, and how much we earn from side hustles and projects. One of my biggest goals at this site is to help you reach your financial dreams, and I believe that being open and transparent with my successes – and failures – can help you learn to build your own side hustle and full-time income streams.
Since 2012, I have reported my online and side hustle income on this website every single month! Check out my online income tracker and click through to the monthly updates to see a breakdown every month from $739 online in January 2012 to my first $10,000+ month in October 2016 to my current six-figure income, which I earn from the comfort of my home office. Only eight years of hard work and I was an overnight success! But using what I learned the hard way, I hope to help you do the same far faster.
This blog started as a little side hustle project back in 2008, and it completely changed my life! Thanks to my online business that started right here, I now make more money than ever before, work fewer hours, have full control over my schedule, and love my entrepreneur lifestyle. If that sounds like something you would enjoy, follow along with my income reports each month, along with my free Personal Profitability Bootcamp, subscribe for free to the podcast in your favorite podcasting app, subscribe (and click the bell) to catch weekly videos on YouTube, and grab some other goodies along the way.

Update from Profitability HQ
FinCon was a huge success. From DJing to Ignite to masterminds, it was a whirlwind of a trip and an amazing 8th year attending this conference. I enjoyed some good networking in the two days prior at CardCon, and I already booked my room for FinCon 2019 in Washington DC. And somehow, even with the week away in Orlando, I managed to break through my old income record from 2016.
Freelancing – The bread and butter of my income is still writing. I met some great companies at the Freelancer Marketplace at FinCon and have some amazing clients. Between platforms like Contently and some personal relationships I've built with people at a range of finance businesses, I've turned this into a reliable income source that allows me to be picky on who I take as a client.
Mastermind Hunt – Mastermind Hunt launched at FinCon, and I'm thrilled to see the first groups coming together. We did a talk about masterminds at FinCon and I led two webinars for FinCon attendees to launch the product. If you want to join mastermind groups or learn more about how they work, check out Mastermind Hunt. I can say without any exaggeration that a big part of my success is due to what I've learned in mastermind groups.
Community Sharer – I've been so busy with writing and masterminds that I have had very slow progress lately. I'm using the live version for some of my own social media postings now, but I'm still planning to add more features in the future. If you want to automate your online community or freelance article sharing, check it out!

Financial Planning and Analysis
So… WOW. When I first saw those number when tallying up my September results, I was floored. I always figured that hard work and dedication would pay off, and that is certainly the case here. As I wrote on Twitter recently: Some people say to work smarter not harder. I try to do both.
A lot of people say you should work smarter, not harder. To reach my income goals, I work smarter AND harder. Will have 4 articles done today. I average around 10 articles a week, or 50 per year, or 500,000 words per year. That's like 10 books a year! #freelancer #income pic.twitter.com/V1BHidtJNf

Part of what led to my record month, rather than just another amazing month over $10,000, was speaking and live events. I really enjoy getting out in front of the crowd and have received some great feedback from audiences. I'm looking to keep expanding this, as I've said before, but possibly with a new twist. I've been learning more about brand ambassadorships and I have to say that I'm intrigued!
But for September, I am proud to look back at a diverse set of income sourcing coming together for both a record revenue and record profit in my entire history of online hustles. In fact, my revenue in September is nearly 3x what I made from my old full-time job as a Senior Financial Analyst. I'm going to keep doing what I'm doing and see if I can break this new record. We'll just have to see how long it takes for me to hit my first $20,000 month.
Until next time, stay profitable.
Congrats! I just found your blog and find posts like these very interesting. I just started my blog and will be tracking my income / net worth etc too. Can’t wait until I can look back years at a time and see the growth like you.
Great to connect and welcome! It’s pretty cool looking back and seeing the progress over time!
Awesome month! Congrats!!!
I see your hustle and drive and NEED to get on your level starting tomorrow. What am I doing on New Years Eve?? Working smarter AND harder 🙂
Thanks! Happy to be an inspiration. If you keep focused on what works and repeat, it’s just a matter of time!
Nice income report. Glancing at the expenses, they don’t seem to add up.
Hi Harold, I removed my paychecks and payroll taxes from expenses and did a little rounding to make up the difference. When they don’t tie out exactly, that’s the source of the difference.
