Save Money Shaving

I am a big fan of saving money. I am also a big fan of convenience. I recently joined my first subscription wine club and love getting interesting, high quality wines delivered to my door each month for less money (and time) than a trip to the local liquor store. I found another time and money-saving service that I have to tell you about.

Shaving Is a Pain in the Ass

I hate shaving. Seriously. I hate it more than almost anything else I have to do. The only thing I hate more is the scratchy, pokey, itchy feeling you get when you don’t shave for a few days. So, I shave.

I tried electrics, but they don’t get as close and if you are too lazy to shave for a few days they don’t really work. For about ten years, I have been a Gillette guy. I did the Mach 3 for a long time, then upgraded to the Mach 3 Turbo, then moved on to the Fusion blades with a vibrating handle.

That stuff gets expensive. Shaving cream is pretty cheap, but no matter your preference blades can easily cost over $5 each. Depending on how fast you go through them, the cost can add up quickly. And there is that hassle of remembering to buy more.

Blades in the Mail

While doing the whole social media thing, I saw multiple friends were trying out a new company called the “Dollar Shave Club.” The concept is simple. Once a month, you get a cartridge with four fresh blades in the mail. You can buy the $1 basic blades (plus shipping), the $6 premium blades, or the more expensive executive blades.

The handle is free and your new cartridges show up each month like clockwork. I went with the $6 per month blades. At $1.50 each, they are a great deal for the quality. The shave is just as good as I have had with Gillette or Schick.

Saves Me Time and Money

In addition to going from $6 to throw a fresh blade on my razor down to $1.50, I don’t have to think about it anymore. Rather than worrying about shopping for shaving supplies, they just show up in the mail.

I have been thrilled so far, and because it saves me time and money, I thought I would share it with you. They advertise the blades (with moisture strips) as a good option for women as well (I have not confirmed that myself).

I was not asked to make this endorsement and I don’t get paid anything for it, but if you sign up through me, I get a free month of shaving for referring you.

Thanks for shaving! I just don’t like that new 2 day beard look that a lot of guys are sporting this year.

  2. I buy disposable razors for $5 (4 razors) and each razor lasts two (2) months. I shave everyday except when I am on vacation.

  3. This looks interesting, even for girls. Might try it! Gosh I really can’t imagine a blade lasting 2 months… it would be awfully dull by the end even if you only shave a few little hairs here and there. Also, men; shave! Shaving is good!
