Welcome to the new format of the Personal Profitability Podcast! This week we welcome guest Grant Baldwin, a successful public speaker and the man behind Booked & Paid to Speak, a course and community dedicated to graduating you from dreaming about earning income as a speaker to a bona fide professional. Today we dig into the details of how you can go from a casual speaker to a paid one. Listen to learn how!
What We’re Chatting About This Week
This week’s episode kicks off with a brief chat about my history as a public speaker. I share how I recently spoke at FinCon and TBEX, partially motivated by what I learned in Grant’s podcast The Speaker Lab. I update a life list with big goals every year, and two goals for 2017 focus on public speaking. The first speaking goal is to speak at any major conference, which I did in May when I spoke at TBEX. Check! Next up is landing a paid speaking gig, which I have about six months to complete.
Speaking can be a lucrative profession, and one that gives you much of the freedom and flexibility of other self-employed gigs like freelance writing or graphic design. Speaking has the added benefit of offering opportunities to travel all over the country, if not the world. It all depends on your goals as a speaker.
This Week’s Sponsor
This week’s show is brought to you sponsor free, as has every episode of the podcast so far. However (there’s always a however), I am looking to bring on new support with this great new format. If you are interested in partnering with the Personal Profitability Podcast to spread the word about your business, brand, or product, send me a note today through the contact form.
This Week’s Guest
Grant Baldwin started his career as a public speaker in his church, where he was a youth pastor at a vibrant congregation. He enjoyed occasional opportunities to speak at “grown-up church,” and ultimately moved on to start a career in public speaking that has generated well over $1 million in speaker fees. I first crossed paths with Grant at FinCon a few years back, and it has been exciting to watch his success in the years since.
