Can I Really Afford to Save For Retirement?
My wife and I were having a conversation the other day about saving for retirement and what regrets, if any, that I had. I had accumulated a fair share of debt early in life and when I finally decided it was time to repay that debt I ignored saving or investing. Sure, I had a laser like focus on paying down that debt, but did I do myself a disservice by not also saving for retirement at the same time? As someone who has been self-employed for a little over two years there is quite a bit I have learned. However, the thing I continue to come back to is that no one is going to do anything for me, meaning it’s all up to me. That ranges from finding the work and knowing what expenses we should take on to things like retirement. You see, I don’t have the cushy benefit of having someone give me free money for retirement leaving me on my own to handle it. That said, I think I’ll take the benefits of working for myself if it means managing my own retirement. 🙂

Believe it or not, we’re living in the waning moments of 2013. Whether we like it or not, the new year is nearly upon us. Saving Money: Summer Checkup
If this year has been going as fast for you as it has me, then you’re amazed that it is now mid-July. I look back at how six months have passed us by and how half of the year is remaining. Whether or not you believe in, or have New Year’s Resolutions, I still believe having some sort of goals – especially in terms of saving money is important. I find that it helps my family live a more disciplined life financially, but it helps me get in a mindset of looking for ways to save money throughout the year.
